ARLISTON THAWED

South London indie duo Arliston have returned with their new cut, ‘Thawed’. It’s an effortlessly flowing track that contrasts their recent releases through its melancholic, icy atmosphere. Its verse feels hazy, with warm textures that build into the snarling swagger of the chorus, completed by thick bass and brash drums. The band explains the story of the track best: “While it seems abstract, It’s really a simple story about a character who is trapped in a cyclical loop of behaviour. The verses give a sense of creeping claustrophobia, and outline the problem: The character becomes addicted to the negativity coming out of media… In the chorus they attempt to solve it, by retreating away from other people, and into the sanctuary of 'my room', and even by just accruing wealth and money 'my fingers in the till', but none of it works, and the cycle begins again.” Keep an eye on Arliston going into 2024, and be sure to check out both of their 2023 EPs. -Dan Peeke
